Q: Can I install 1 ½-inch piping for my bathtub or does it have to be 2-inch.

A: In accordance with 2713.1 of the 2003 IRC, bathtubs shall have outlets and overflows at least 1.5-inches in diameter.  Note that this drain shall be trapped with a trap vent outlet located no further than 6-feet from the trap.
